Water for All This program includes the water cycle and how rain, surface water, and ground water become our drinking water. Also, the program will focus on how our smart use of water ensures that wildlife and forests will have the water they need to thrive. The program will show boys and girls how they can save water (and money) and thus help the earth and wildlife. Length: 60 minutes The Water Cycle Explores different ways in which rain water is harvested such as aquifers and groundwater and how groundwater and rainwater help recharge our lakes. Important to the program will be how proper land management prevents soil erosion and runoff which pollutes our water and lessens our soil fertility. Students will learn what they can do to help prevent runoff, for example, not over-watering fertilized lawns, or pouring items into storm drains. The program will also include environmentally safe methods of using runoff for reuse, such as the use of rain water harvesting barrels attached to home gutter systems. Length: 60 minutes The Science of Clean Water This program explains how pollutants such as fats, oils and grease get in our waste water treatment facilities and the short and long term effects they have on water quality and the environment. In addition, it will address how improperly managed storm water can cause floods and have negative effects on forests, wildlife and drinking water. The program will show students techniques used by water scientists and engineers to remove pollutants from our drinking water. Also included will be a showcase of the variety of careers involved in cleaning water from accountants, scientists, engineers, human resources and customer service personnel to water and waste water operators, mechanics, electricians, managers, and information technology specialists. Length: 60 minutes Prices for an hour long program are $50.00 plus $2.00 per child for an on site visit and $75.00 for an off site. |
